Fourth - Eighth Grade Physical Education
Students will work on team sports, group games, fitness, dance, and sportsmanship. Some of the sports will include volleyball, basketball, soccer, kickball, floor hockey, and outdoor games.
Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of extracurricular athletic activities as they learn to balance their academic and athletic pursuits. In keeping with our mission, “students are empowered to recognize and optimize their full potential” as all interested athletes make the team. Our goal is to create competent team players, while offering opportunities for all student athletes to improve their existing abilities.
CCDS teams compete primarily with other independent schools of similar philosophies. This commitment sometimes requires extensive travel by our teams.
Students are given the opportunity to participate in three seasonal sports, which are described below. Intramural options for younger students include volleyball, Cougars at Play, basketball, and soccer.
Fall: Co-ed Soccer
CCDS students are encouraged to participate in a co-ed soccer team, in order to develop new skills and discover the joy of playing and competition while learning to function as a team. The CCDS season includes a 12-14 game schedule from August through October, including a culminating tournament against other independent schools.
Winter: Girls and Boys Basketball
CCDS fields both boys and girls basketball teams during the winter months from December until February, with practices beginning in November. Students learn sportsmanship, discipline and perseverance while developing their skills on the court. The season includes a culminating tournament against other independent schools.
Spring: Co-ed Track and Field
CCDS offers co-ed track and field from March through May. Students participate in 4-5 meets during the season, including a large invitational track meet that wraps up the season. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of events while learning about team participation, promoting school spirit, and building character through skill development.
