CANTON COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL…… CONTRIBUTING TO STARK COUNTY AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Canton Country Day School:
- Has graduated nearly 800 students who attended leading universities and colleges. Our alumni/ae are active in international, state and local government, education, business and finance, manufacturing, health care, performing arts, architecture, media, and non- profit organizations.
- Employs 60 personnel in Stark County.
- Contributes more than $1,770,000 in salary and benefits as well as $400,000 in local spending for business services and goods.
- Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has a commitment to cultural, racial, religious, and socio-economic diversity. CCDS provides nearly $865,000 annually for student financial aid to 48% of its student body. 25% of our students are students of color. The CCDS school population is more racially diverse than Stark County; i.e., the Stark County Caucasian population is 90%, the CCDS Caucasian population is 75%.
- Encourages its students to become active in community service and in civic life. Our students regularly volunteer in nursing homes and food kitchens, conduct book and food drives, collect donations and gifts for Project Care, and participate in Habitat for Humanity. CCDS students recently conducted an energy audit at the McKinley Museum and made several cost-saving recommendations to the museum staff.
- Supports the local arts organizations by incorporating study trips to museums, concerts, ballet, and the theater into the school’s arts program. CCDS hosted the Closing Ceremony (“Come Fly a Kite!”) for the Arts in Stark Kimono Project in 2009.
- Consistently represents the community at the highest level in local, state, and national academic competitions such as Power of the Pen, Chess, Robotics, National French Exam, History Day, Science Fair, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, and Math Counts.
- Faculty and staff serve on city, local, and regional boards of trustees and are actively involved in community organizations.
- Was founded as an “adventure in education” and continues to pilot innovative 21st century educational programs like robotics and a one-to one laptop program in grades 4 through eight. Knowledge from innovations is shared with educators from other schools through professional development activities.
- Has been a part of the local community for 46 years. As the only independent, non- sectarian PK-8 school in Stark County, CCDS is a unique asset to the community and a draw for families considering a move to the area.
